Development Project

In 2006 government of Saint Petersburg approved the general plan of Pulkovo airport development till 2025 year. Realization of the project began on February, 2007 with announcement of the international contest for development of the architectural decision for new passenger terminal of the airport, development of adjacent infrastructure and complex airdrom modernization.

Four architectural bureaus took part in the competition, project of the British company Grimshaw & Partners Ltd. was chosen as a winner.

On April, 2008 government of Saint Petersburg announced about the competition commencement of investor choice for the following realization of  Pulkovo airport development plans. On June 25, 2009 consortium Northern Capital Gateway consisting of VTB Capital, Fraport AG (the owner and operator of Frankfurt-am-Mein airport) and Copelouzos Group (the Greek investment financial group) was officially announced as a winner of the competition.

On October, 2009 Northern Capital Gateway Ltd., Pulkovo Aiport JSC and Government of Saint Petersburg signed the Agreement of creating, re-construction and exploitation of objects which are included in the property of the Pulkovo airport. On April, 2010 consortium Northern Capital Gateway began realization of operating activity at Pulkovo airport. The next project stage of Airport re-construction is building of the centralized passenger terminal.

As a result carrying capacity of the airport will be essentially increased, it will help to increase passenger traffic, to open new domestic and international flights, to extend flow of transfer passengers, to realize the newest airport technologies and will help large interchange node – hub. Re-construction project includes the use of high international standards of safety and technical equipment of the airport, modern check-in procedures, customs legalization and passport control.

With introduction of the new terminal in 2013 Pulkovo airport will become one of the leading modern air transport nodes in Northern Europe.
